"This new music ain't got no soul, I just want my rock n' roll," is more than a mission statement for The New Romans. Featuring members of We Are The Fury, Head Automatica and Men, Women and Children and ex-members of Lemon Sun, the band has all the swagger of Mick Jagger mixed with the whimsical heart of Marc Bolan. On tracks "Seven" and "Get Down," The New Romans play up the dirty, glam androgyny of New York or London in the early 70's. On songs "Our Love" and "Some Days" the band delves into the land of psychedelic mystics with lyrical references to elves, aliens, and anything else you might expect to find when you declare Jon Sinclair's Guitar Army and Robert Anton Wilson's Cosmic Trigger your primary source of cultural inspiration. While the influences of the past are apparent, these Romans are indeed fresh, exciting, and, uh... new. Simple songs, sassy vocals, swinging drums, smashing bass, and guitars dripping in sweet, sweaty sex are the ingredients for this new rock n' roll recipe, and what's not to love about that?
