What is this?Music has always been a big part of my life. I've been playing piano and making up songs ever since I was very young, so it was never something I just "got into". It was always there, as long as I can remember.
My style as a singer/songwriter over the years has continued to evolve, and even now, I have difficulty trying to describe the music I make. I draw from my influences like everyone else, but somehow, when put together, they just wind up turning into Keith Dominique music. I have an affinity for songs with strong melodies, and well-crafted, intelligent lyrics have become increasingly important to me in recent years. Those are qualities I'd say I consistently strive for in my music. And of course, I have been known to just plain rock out on occasion. As a piano player, I like to keep the piano an integral part of my compositions, using it to accompany, and to tie together vocal melody lines and phrases.
In spring of '02, I became quite well known as a performer in the local college music scene at UMass Lowell, which at the time, was a thriving scene, notable for its musical diversity. One of my songs was chosen for inclusion on a compilation CD of local bands and artists, many of who were fixtures of the UML music scene. One of the best comments I've ever received was from Ian Young, a fellow musician/performer of the UML scene at the time:
"So I hear this wild, energetic song on Will's compilation album a few years back and he tells me it's the same guy in my conducting class who never spoke a word all semester. I was amazed, just like everyone else that picked up the Snowrunner CD that day. Keith can grasp the essence of pop music like no one else I've met in my 3 years at Lowell. And that's saying a lot, because the UML scene kicks ass anyway."
Recently, I viewed another artist's page on Myspace, and they described what they do as "piano-based, pop and rock singer/songwriter music", which I think describes my music perfectly. I wish I had thought of it myself. Anyway, hope you enjoy.
