Formed in October, 1989 when Bruce Bennett and Scott Johnson hooked up with Chris Gomez and John Keiley. In 1989, overnight Witch Bonnie's name was everywhere, playing the biggest clubs in Boston on the best nights with some of Boston's best bands. Everybody was talking about this new band with high energy on stage and memorable songs. Gomez had a ton of Charisma. Keiley was an absolute mad man on stage (and off), and yes, he really did eat live crickets on stage at the Channel, and spit them out on the crowd. Scott was always wild and hard hitting behind the drums, and Bruce always had one eye on the crowd and one on the band, while constantly trying to blend the band's personality and music into the music industry. Oh yes... let's not forget the crazy antics on stage every night, including the flash pods and the strippers.
After the band completed it's first 8 song demo tape, "Hot Nice & Nasty", several record companies passed. As there was a local demand for the band's recorded music, the demo actually ended up being the band's first release. It was a simple 8 track recording, but "Hot, Nice & Nasty" eventually found itself in thousands of cassette players. This follow up 10 song release, "The First Time Always Hurts", also sold thousands of units.
In all, Witch Bonnie had reached 50 U.S. states and 22 countries via the band's self marketing campaign. By 1991, Witch Bonnie was receiving up to 200 pieces of fan mail daily, with a over 150 cassettes distributed daily.
