With the current direction of the hip-hop genre, the last thing Chris Phenom wants to be recognized as is a departure. With his first commercial release, "My Mind", his departure is more of a resurrection of the revolutionary, culturally motivated, and reflective journey through not only the state of the game, but our own personal ideology and perceptions of the life/culture relationship. Make no mistake. This is not a sermon, address or stumping speech. The beats bang. The rhymes are both ferocious and sensitive, remiscent of the early legends that catapulted Hip-Hop as an art-form and transformed pop culture as we know it. With poignant theses on both the genre and culture such as "Save The Music" "Hold On" and "Regime Change" Chris Phenom sticks his chest out and challenges those who refuse to recognize the vicious cycle that has become mainstream Hip-Hop. Bringing it back to the age of "Beats Rhymes and Life" CP may be the man to put the soul back in hip-hop. "Perspective" is a masterpiece that departs from the typical "Ladies'" joint. It's a love letter tailor made for that occasion when a man must say "My Bad". One caution though, it may be the first and last time you hear a man say those two words.. And finally with "Price To Pay" and the album's title track "My Mind", we get a glimpse into what makes up the man that will bless us with his gift for years to come. Chris Phenom hails from Salem, MA, just north of Boston. His journey into hip-hop began in 1996 recording experimental tracks in the bedroom of his parents' home with a mic and tape-recorder. CP's music has been highly influenced by all genres of music from Jay-Z to the Beatles to Donnie Hathaway and Gustav Holst. After years of writing and dreaming, CP hooked up with veteran engineer and producer DJ Jabby Jab who has worked with such hip-hop notables as Gang Starr, Krumbsnatcha, Scientifik, and The W.O.L.V.E.S. Finally Phenom's sound was captured for the world to hear. "My Mind" promises to be the first phase of a long quest to prove that Hip-Hop is not dead and in fact, it's coming back with a vengeance.
